RESOLUTION 12-097
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR A CODE BLUE GRANT APPLICATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $153,000 FOR A NEW AMBULANCE, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS, AND PLEDGING THAT IT WILL APPROPRIATE THE REQUIRED TEN PERCENT MATCH ($17,000) IF THE GRANT IS AWARDED.
WHEREAS, An ambulance has an expected lifespan of about fifteen years; and
WHEREAS, Medic 1 is a 1997 model which over the years has responded to 87% of all HVFD emergency calls; and
WHEREAS, Medic 1 is spending more and more time in the shop for repairs over the past few years and its on-board equipment is becoming outdated and obsolete as new NFPA and OSHA requirements become effective; and
WHEREAS, The estimated cost of a new ambulance to replace Medic 1 is $170,000; and
WHEREAS, The Code Blue Grant Program is a traditional source of funding statewide for public safety vehicles and equipment; and
WHEREAS, Chief Painter wishes to apply for a Code Blue Grant to replace Medic 1 and in order to make the application, the City must show that the governing body pledges to provide the required local match if the grant application is successful; and
WHEREAS, The required local match must be at least ten percent or $17,000.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby expresses its support for a Code Blue Grant application in the amount of $153,000 for a new ambulance and authorizes the City Manager to execute the appropriate documents.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council hereby pledges to appropriate the required ten percent local match ($17,000) if and when the grant is awarded.
