The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in tremendous economic strain and hardship on many individuals, families and businesses in Homer.  As part of the City's commitment to assisting the community with response and recovery, the City is temporarily suspending all utility shutoffs due to lack of payment.  Providing access to clean water for drinking, cooking, and washing hands remains critical to preventing the spread of COVID-19, and is an essential function of the City that will be given high priority.

Recently, City Council passed Resolution 20-037, which, for the duration of the local emergency, provides additional time  to residents for making certain payments:

  • While residents are encouraged to pay their utility bills as they are able, the City of Homer is providing customers the option of deferring payments related to water/sewer, natural gas and other assessment payments for up to three months.
    • Deferring payment is available upon request.
    • Upon request, the Finance Department will work on payment plans following the deferral period for the payment of all accrued deferred payments.
    • All penalties and late fees will be waived for the requested deferrals during the defined period.
    • No water/sewer shut offs will occur during the period of deferral for any customers.

As of April 24th, the lobby at City Hall is closed to walk-in customers; however, customers requesting deferral can call the Finance Department at 435-3112.

For making payments, you can call us at 435-3112, go online, use the payment drop box at City Hall, or return your payment by mail.  Please call or email finance@cityofhomer-ak.gov if you have any questions.
