RESOLUTION 13-024

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, URGING THE STATE OF ALASKA TO FULLY FUND KACHEMAK BAY STATE PARKS.

WHEREAS, State parks and recreational areas are vital to local residents’ recreational opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Kachemak Bay State Parks attract people from all around the state, the country, and the world; and

WHEREAS, The Kachemak Bay State Parks generate millions of dollars and create jobs for the local economy; and

WHEREAS, Since 1985 park use has steadily increased, yet funding for parks has steadily declined; and

WHEREAS, In 1985 there were two Rangers assigned to the 400,000 acres of Kachemak Bay State Parks, and today there is only one Ranger overseeing the entire lower Kenai Peninsula; and

WHEREAS, Fully funding the Kachemak Bay State Parks requires a modest sum of money in return of millions of dollars for the local economy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby urges the State of Alaska to fully fund Kachemak Bay State Parks.
