Homer Comprehensive Plan 2018 Update Open House

Join Planning Department Staff for an open house at City Hall on March 1, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.  This informal gathering will provide the opportunity to discuss the plan update, ask questions and leave comments.

Public Input Sought on Area Public Transportation Needs

CARTS, the Central Area Rural Transit System, is developing a transit service plan and wants to know how public transportation can serve you better. 

The Independent Living Center invites Homer residents to give their input on transportation needs of the southern Kenai Peninsula at a Community Open House being held in Cowles Council Chambers on Monday, March 5th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. 

Parks Art Recreation & Culture Advisory Commission Worksession

Site visit to view the facilities and premises of the HERC. This is a public meeting and there will be 30 minute tours provided at 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Preschool Fair at HPL Feb 17th

On Saturday, February 17th from 10:30 to noon, Homer area preschool providers will be in one place- at the library!

Find out more about local preschool options and the questions you might want to ask when choosing the right program for your child.  Early literacy resources will also be available.  This event is family friendly.

Homer Promoted at Seattle & Anchorage Boat Shows

Alaska’s ports and harbors are the economic lifelines for the 49th State.  Ports accept 90% of all goods entering Alaska; they support Alaska’s vibrant commercial fishing and resource extraction industries and they attract and accommodate recreation and tourism.

Fire Chief Painter Retires; Assistant Fire Chief Kadel Serves as Interim Chief

Last Friday, January 26th, the City of Homer bid farewell to long-time Fire Chief Bob Painter.  Bob began his career with the Volunteer Fire Department in 1991 as the Assistant Fire Chief.  His retirement marks twenty-six years of public service dedicated to the health and wellbeing of Homer area citizens and emergency responders.

2018 Comprehensive Plan

The 2018 Comprehensive Plan together with the City of Homer’s Master Roads and Streets Plan (1986), Transportation Plan (2024), Town Center Development Plan (2006), and Spit Plan (2010) comprise the Homer Comprehensive Plan. The 2018 Comprehensive Plan was adopted in November 2018.
