Fire Chief Painter Retires; Assistant Fire Chief Kadel Serves as Interim Chief

Last Friday, January 26th, the City of Homer bid farewell to long-time Fire Chief Bob Painter.  Bob began his career with the Volunteer Fire Department in 1991 as the Assistant Fire Chief.  His retirement marks twenty-six years of public service dedicated to the health and wellbeing of Homer area citizens and emergency responders.

2018 Comprehensive Plan

The 2018 Comprehensive Plan together with the City of Homer’s Master Roads and Streets Plan (1986), Transportation Plan (2024), Town Center Development Plan (2006), and Spit Plan (2010) comprise the Homer Comprehensive Plan. The 2018 Comprehensive Plan was adopted in November 2018.

The City of Homer, Alaska is requesting proposals from qualified firms for solid waste collection and disposal.  Successful proposer will be contracted to collect and dispose of solid waste from designated City facilities, and to furnish the necessary labor, material, equipment, tools, supervision, and other facilities to perform under such contract.

Large Vessel Haul-Out and Marine Repair Facility

The Homer Marine Repair Facility is managed as an "Open Yard" facility, meaning that the vessel owner is responsible for the actual work being performed on their vessel.   The City is simply facilitating the opportunity for haul-out and uplands use, and is not responsible for the finished product.  This management structure gives the vessel owner the opportunity to manage their project from start-to-finish, contracting with vendors from the Approved Vendor List (provided by the City), or by using their own crew to make the repairs necessary for vessel maintenance.
