This Is Only A Test - National Emergency Alert System - Sept 27

A test of the nation-wide Emergency Alert System is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27th at about 10:20 AM Alaska Time (2:20 PM EDT). This is only a test.  The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is used by Federal authorities to send warnings via broadcast, cable, satellite, and wireline communications pathways.

Celebrate New Trails in Karen Hornaday Park - Sun Sept 24th

Thanks to over 378 hours of volunteer work by thirty Homer residents and funds from the HART (Homer Accelerated Road and Trail) Program, there are some new trails to explore at Karen Hornaday Park!  

There's a Woodard Creek Nature Trail, and new access trails along Fairview Avenue and along the park's access road.  

Join the City Parks, Art, Recreation and Culture Advisory Commission Sunday, September 24th at 2:00 pm at the Karen Hornaday park pavilion near the playground for a Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!

Reserved Stall Renewals Due

It's that time of the year!  Reserved Stall renewal notices have been mailed out mid-August, second notices are sent mid-September, and are due by Saturday, September 30, 2017.  The Port and Harbor Office will be open that Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Child Car Seat & Booster Seat Checkup Event

73% of car seats nationwide are not used or installed correctly.  Keep your child safe on every ride by making sure your car seat or booster seat is installed and used properly.  

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on hand Wednesday, September 20th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Homer Fire Department to help you make sure your child is riding safely.  Learn how to install your car seat for free. Technicians will teach you so that you can always be sure your car seat is used correctly.

FAQs about Prop 1 to Amend the HART Program to Allow Road & Trail Maintenance

HVFD Recruiting for the 2017 Firefighter I Class Starting in October

Do you want to give back to your community?  The Homer Volunteer Fire Department is now recruiting for its 2017 Firefighter I Recruit Class starting on October 2 and ending in December.

Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes -- you just have to be willing to put forth the effort.   Volunteer firefighting is one of the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have!  If you like a challenge, are over the age of 18 (or will be by the end of the year), and are physically up to the task, becoming a volunteer Firefighter I is for you.
