Alaska Reads Author Talk with Lily Tuzroyluke

Indigenous author Lily Tuzroyluke has been selected for the 2024-2026 Alaska Reads program, which brings Alaskans together through shared reading experiences. Her historical novel Sivulliq: Ancestor is set in 1890s Alaska, amid harrowing change for the Inupiaq people. As the Alaska Reads author, Tuzroyluke will visit libraries and communities across the state through 2026. Join us at the Homer Public Library for a reading and discussion!

2025 Celebration of Lifelong Learning

The Celebration of Lifelong Learning will be held on Saturday, March 29, 6:30 pm at Homer Public Library. The evening will include appetizers by Vida’s Thai Food, desserts by Red Bird Kitchen, live music by Daniel Christ and Sophia Williams, a silent auction with fabulous prizes, sponsorships for youth participants of the Summer Reading Program, and of course, the Trivia Tree!

Tickets are on sale at the Homer Bookstore, the library and via Friends of the Library board members for $50

Saying Goodbye to An Old Friend: USCG Cutter Naushon Decommissioning

First commissioned on October 3, 1986, the U.S. Coast Guard cutter NAUSHON has been part of the Coast Guard's presence in Homer since June 2016. The NAUSHON is an Island-class patrol boat, a class of cutters of the United States Coast Guard named after Islands. (For the curious, Naushon Island is the largest of the Elizabeth Islands in southeastern Massachusetts near Cape Cod.)

Alaska DOT & PF Public Meeting March 7th

The Homer Airport Improvement project team will be hosting a meeting:

Friday March 7th from 4:30-5:30 pm

at Cowles Chambers in City Hall.

They will be discussing nightly closures set to begin April 5th and run through June 30th.

They can answer any questions you have and you can learn more about this year's construction plans.

KPB Comprehensive Safety Action Plan - Comment Now through April 30th!

The City of Homer has been working with the Kenai Peninsula Borough and other cities on the Peninsula to complete a Comprehensive Action Plan with a goal to help reduce serious injuries and traffic fatalities on our roads. 

The plan follows the Safe System Approach National Roadway Safety Strategy developed by the United States Department of Transportation and is intended to help us understand the causes and contributing factors, and identify opportunities to improve safety, especially for areas of highest concern.
