Lunch with a Councilmember: Shelly Erickson

WHEN: Tuesday, May 9, 2023 @ 12-1 pm

WHAT: Bring your brown bag lunch and join us for lunch with Homer City Council member Shelly Erickson.

The library hosts council members as an opportunity for community members to bring their questions and ideas to their elected representatives. One or two (or a few) councilmembers will visit each month for and informal conversation.

Inlet Wind Band FREE Concert: Sat. April 22, 7PM

Join us at the the Homer High Mariner Theater for a FREE Inlet Wind Band Concert on Saturday, April 22nd at 7pm.  There are 36 community members who are  a part of this amazing band and they are lead by Eric and Mary Simondsen.  The music list of performances are below.

Safe and Healthy Kids Fair: Saturday, May 17th

31st Annual Safe and Healthy Kids Fair: Saturday, May 17th 11am-2pm at Homer High School

Join us for a fun day of outdoor activities, health and safety information, bike rodeo, games, bike give-a-aways, buy some hotdogs for lunch and so much more!  Our goal is to promote health, safety and wellness for youth in our community.  Hundreds of kids and their families attend each year, with over 40 organizations participating. FREE for all!

Homer Spit Coastal Erosion Mitigation

Damage from powerful coastal storm surge events on the Homer Spit is undermining the portion of the Sterling Highway - Alaska Route 1 that connects the Kenai Peninsula mainland to organizations like the United States Coast Guard and the Alaska Marine Highway and will ultimately, if left unchecked, diminish the role the Homer Spit plays as a regional commerce center and transportation hub for Southcentral Alaska.

Join the Friends of the Library for an evening of poetry! Local author & poet Peter Kaufman will discuss his collection of poetry, The Round Whisper of No Moon. This collection weaves imagery and story gathered over twenty years of migrating between the wilds of Alaska and densely populated cities in Southeast Asia.

April is National Poetry Month!

Join the Friends of the Library for a showcase of Homer's most beloved poetry, inspired by the Favorite Poem Project! This event features multiple Homer readers of all ages, each sharing a poem that has touched their life. Selected poets will include Robert Service, e.e. cummings, and Pablo Naruda, among others. Join us at the Llibrary's Fireplace Lounge and find your new favorite poem.

Kids Yoga For ages 5-11

Kids Yoga With Joanna

Joanna is a certified yoga teacher, with certification specializing in kids yoga. Each class is $5 per person. No experience needed. Connections students can use allotment if they have PE listed on their ILP.

2024 Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament CHAMPIONS

Congrats to "Team Bumpalicious" from Juneau, Alaska for wining the 2024 one day City of Homer Community Recreation Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament! There was a total of 8 teams, 29 games and lots of competitive action form players from Homer, Anchorage, Juneau, Kenai, Soldotna and Nikiski.  We hope to see you all next year.
