Background:  Caroline is an experienced educator.  She is currently employed as the Learning Resource Coordinator at the Kachemak Bay Campus of UAA.  Prior to that, she worked as an advisor for the Youth Job Training Program at the college. She graduated from UAF with a bachelor degree in education and taught in Fairbanks for two years.  She then went to Hudson Bay, Quebec Canada where she was a teacher on a Cree Indian reservation.  After two years she returned to Alaska and she was employed by the Kenai Borough School District for thirty years. She taught in Hope where she was the head teacher of the one room school for seven years.  She also taught at Paul Banks and West Homer Elementary schools in Homer. She has earned a Master’s Degree in school administration from UAA.

Caroline was raised in Kodiak.  Her parents were pioneers that settled there in 1946.

The 1964 earthquake and resulting tsunami destroyed her home and much of the City of Kodiak.

As a consequence, Caroline is keenly aware of the importance of providing resiliency in a community’s infrastructure and for having an adequate plan for a community to deal with a disaster.

She has lived in Homer for over 30 years.  Serving on the Homer Library Advisory Board and the Transportation Committee gave Caroline the opportunity to serve this City.  In 2016, she was awarded a Woman of Wisdom award by Haven House of Homer. She also has been recognized as a BP Teacher of the Year.

Caroline lives happily in this community with her husband, Franco, and a dog and cat as well as many friends.  She enjoys gardening, reading, walking her dog, and being an active advocate for this wonderful place that she calls home.
