City Clerk Jo Johnson Earns Master Municipal Clerk Designation

Mayor Wythe congratulated Jo Johnson, City Clerk of the City of Homer for her efforts and accomplishment in earning the Master Municipal Clerk designation at Monday night's Council meeting. Jo Johnson has been in the City Clerk's Office for 10 years and became the City Clerk in 2006.

The Designation of Master Municipal Clerk, which is awarded by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Inc. is granted only to  municipal clerks who complete demanding education requirements and have a record of significant contributions to their local government, their community, and state.

In light of the speed and drastic nature of change these days, lifelong learning is not only desirable, it is necessary for all in local government to keep pace with growing demands and changing needs of the citizens we serve. The City of Homer can take great pride in Jo’s educational accomplishments and achievement of this milestone.

The Alaska Association of Municipal Clerks has approximately 200 members, and of that membership, less than 25 hold the Master Municipal Clerk designation.
