City Council gives Koester the nod as next City Manager

After many months of searching for a new City Manager, the position has been offered to current City of Homer Economic and Development Coordinator, Katie Koester.

Koester was born and raised in Homer, and has worked for the City for just over three years.  She has a Master of Political Science from Pontific Catholic University of Chile, a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Smith College, and is currently working on a Master of Public Administration through the University of Alaska Southeast, via distance education.  Prior to coming to the City of Homer, Koester worked as Representative Paul Seaton's Chief of Staff for seven years.

At a special meeting held on March 24, the City Council voted unanimously to offer Koester the position.  The Council met in Executive Session to discuss compensation, and came back to report Koester would be offered a contract that runs over three years, ending December 31, 2018.

Koester's first day in her new role will be April 13, and she will be sworn in at the City Council Meeting scheduled for that evening.
