Preliminary Report on HERC Building Released
The City contracted with Klauder & Company Architects, Inc. to analyze what it would take to bring the Homer Educational and Recreation Center (HERC), also know as the old middle school, up to code for its current use as the Homer Boys and Girls Club and for potential future use as a headquarters for City of Homer Community Recreation.
The architect presented a preliminary report to council on Monday, December 10th. The report finds many deficiencies with fire safety and ADA compliance in the current structure. The estimate for brining the HERC building up to code, ADA compliant, and other recommended improvements is $598 a square foot. The Council asked the state fire marshal to weigh in on the current use of the building by the Homer Boys and Girls Club. A copy of the report is attached.
