Candidate's Statement (reproduced exactly as submitted)
Homer, in the midst of a pandemic and bringing on a new city manager, needs a mayor who is knowledgeable and experienced, understands City Council processes and policy-making, and will act fairly and equitably in leading the city through this difficult time. I believe five years on City Council has prepared me well to assume the duties and responsibilities of mayor.
Many of the priorities set by the Council in January were delayed while Council hired a new city manager and responded to the pandemic. I look forward to returning to those priorities with Council—among them a large vessel harbor study, community recreation center, climate action, and stormwater management—and setting new ones.
Council has hired a forward-thinking city manager, and, as mayor, I anticipate working with him and Council to move Homer into the future while respecting our past. It’s important to me to hear from Homer residents, whose thoughts and concerns help guide us. While COVID-19 has restricted our ability to socialize, I hope you will call me or stop me when you see me around town. We can chat, masked and socially distanced, of course, about what you think our city’s goals should be.
