Clone of Pardon our dust! We are spring cleaning.

Now that the snow has melted off City streets, your Public Works Department is springing into street sweeping operations to remove sand remaining from the winter season.  Sweeping up the excess dust and debris on nearly 2o miles of roadway keeps it out of the air and our storm drain system and makes our town cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing and livable.

Sister City Cultural Exchanges

The City of Homer has a Sister City relationship with the city of Teshio, Japan. This year marks the 40th anniversary of that relationship.

Spit Trail Closure on August 21 and 22

Homer, Alaska, August 14, 2023 – The City of Homer, in conjunction with the Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management, will temporarily close a portion of the Spit Trail on Monday, August 21, and Tuesday, August 22, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The closure aims to facilitate the installation of enhanced tsunami sirens by the Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management and the execution of a testing project.

Report Opossum Sightings to ADF&G

Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) asks the public to report all opossum sightings immediately to the ADF&G at 907-235-8191. The ADF&G is actively working towards the removal of opossums from the wild in the Homer area because opossums possess the potential to spread diseases, prey on, and compete with native wildlife.

If an opossum is spotted outside of normal business hours, please contact the Homer Police at 907-235-3150.
