New Public Art Unveiled at the Fire Hall's Pocket Park

On Friday, May 17, artist Jeffrey Dean of Creative Fires Studio in Homer unveiled a new piece of public art in the pocket park next to the Homer Volunteer Fire Department.

HPL's Summer Reading Program Begins Today

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the first American astronauts blasting into space to explore the moon.  Most of us won’t fly to the moon, but we can still get there — and anywhere else we dream of going — inside books.  Summer@HPL, themed The Universe of Stories encourages children and adults to explore the universe of stories available to them through the local library.

Homer Is 2nd Safest City in Alaska - 2nd Year in a Row

In mid-April, Safewise released their annual findings on Alaska's five safest city's.  For the second consecutive year, Homer ranks as the second safest city in Alaska, behind Sitka.  Palmer, Unalaska and Ketchikan finish out the top five slots. 

Safewise (an independent review and comparison company dedicated to providing consumers with information and educational materials about home security systems and techniques) bases its rankings on the most recent FBI report.

New Library Director Selected

The City of Homer is pleased to announce that David Berry will be Homer Public Library’s new director, replacing retiring director Ann Dixon as of May 1.

Saturday, April 27 is National Drug Take Back Day

National Drug Take Back Day encourages you to clean out your cabinets of drugs of any type: prescription, over-the-counter or illegal, expired, unused, or unwanted drugs--including prescription drugs for pain, like opioids, or vitamins, samples, even medications for pets.  Do your part!

Register Now for the Industry Outlook Forum - Hosted in Homer January 5th

Three Easy Preparedness Tips for World Tsunami Awareness Day - Nov 5

Homer is an awesome place to live, but it is a little wild. We often experience earthquakes and that puts us at risk for landslides and tsunamis.

Tsunamis are rare events, but they can be extremely deadly.  In the past 100 years, 58 of them have claimed more than 260,000 lives, or an average of 4,600 per disaster, surpassing any other natural hazard.

2019-2024 Capital Improvement Plan

Attached is the City of Homer's 2019-2024 Capital Improvement Plan, or CIP for short.  

The CIP provides information on capital projects identified as priorities for the Homer community.  The projects included in the City of Homer’s CIP were compiled with input from the public, area-wide agencies, and City staff, as well as various advisory commissions serving the City of Homer.

Descriptions of City projects include ways the project will benefit the community, cost and schedule information and a priority designation Level 1 (highest), 2 or 3.
