Data we collected for 2017 confirms that our rigorous water management and cutting-edge treatment techniques result in top-quality tap water that meets or beats all quality standards set by the federal government.

Elks Award Lt. Browning for Drug Prevention Efforts

At their April 7th awards banquet, the Homer Elks #2127 awarded Lt. Ryan Browning of the Homer Police Department with the Elks' National Enrique Camarena Award.

Homer Elks #2127 is the first lodge in Alaska to award a law enforcement officer with an Elks National Award.  The Enrique Camarena Award was established by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks to recognize and honor law enforcement officers who have made a significant contribution in the field of drug prevention and who personify Agent Camarena’s belief that one person can make a difference.

In times of intense personal crisis and community-wide disasters, the first place people turn for help is with a call to 9-1-1.

It's National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, and we wanted to take a moment to show our appreciation for all that our dispatchers do, 24/7, 365 days a year to protect the citizens of Homer.

Celebrate Lifelong Learning at HPL, April 7

Each year the Friends of the Homer Public Library honor a community members who have made a lifelong commitments to acquiring an exceptional skill or knowledge -- someone who is always trying something new and sharing what they have found with others and who has an infectious passion for learning and exploration. 

Lee Post is the 2018 Celebration of Lifelong Learning Award winner. The Youth Learner Award goes to Ben Kettle this year.

Congrats Adult Basketball 2018 Champs: Best Western Bidarka Inn RIPTIDE

Congratulations to Best Western Riptide for winning this year's basketball league title.  They defeated the Bay Welding Smooth Operators in a close game 51-49.

HVFD Assist with CPR Class at Homer Middle School

Last week, members of Homer Volunteer Fire Department teamed up with Samantha Cunningham to teach 7th graders at the Homer Middle School an introductory CPR class.  Over 85 students got hands on training with CPR manikins as well as AED training.  Now the students have the ability to use the three AED's located throughout the Homer Middle School.

HERC Tours Offered Today at 4 pm & 5 pm

The City of Homer Park, Arts, Recreation and Culture Advisory Commission will be providing half hour tours of the HERC facility (Homer Education and Recreation Center) on Wednesday, March 7th at 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. 

The site visit allows community members to see first hand the challenges and opportunities the space provides. 

Please use the gym entrance, not the entrance by the Homer Veterinary Clinic.

Public Input Sought on Area Public Transportation Needs

CARTS, the Central Area Rural Transit System, is developing a transit service plan and wants to know how public transportation can serve you better. 

The Independent Living Center invites Homer residents to give their input on transportation needs of the southern Kenai Peninsula at a Community Open House being held in Cowles Council Chambers on Monday, March 5th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
