Council Adopts the 2020-2025 Capital Improvement Plan

At the September 23rd City Council Meeting, Council adopted the 2020-2025 Capital Improvement Plan, or CIP for short.

2020-2025 Capital Improvement Plan

Attached is the City of Homer's 2020-2025 Capital Improvement Plan, or CIP for short.

The CIP provides information on capital projects identified as priorities for the Homer community.  The projects included in the City of Homer’s CIP were compiled with input from the public, area-wide agencies, and City staff, as well as various advisory commissions serving the City of Homer.

Descriptions of City projects include ways the project will benefit the community, cost and schedule information and a priority designation Level 1 (highest), 2 or 3.

Make Your Home Safer

Know your utilities

All family members should know how and when to turn off the utilities: gas, electric and water.

Gas

Turn the gas off only if you hear hissing or smell gas. Once turned off, gas can only be restarted by a trained technician. Attach a wrench to your gas meter so it will be handy. To shut off gas, turn the valve until it is perpendicular to the pipe.

Electricity

Safeguard Critical Documents

When disaster strikes, your immediate concern will be your safety and the safety of those you care about.

Once the immediate danger passes, however, having your financial and medical records and important contact information will be crucial to help you start the recovery process quickly. Taking time now to safeguard these critical documents will give you peace of mind, ensure you have access to essential medical and prescription information, and help you avoid additional stress during the difficult days following a disaster.

Assemble or Update Your At-Home Emergency Supply Kit

Should you need to shelter at home, it is recommended your family keep emergency supplies to last you for seven days in an accessible kit.  You can assemble your kit from things you already have around the house, and add water and food and other items you don't have over time.  Try the 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 trick.  Add one item to your disaster supply kit each time you visit the store.

What should be in the kit?

Create Your Family Emergency Communication Plan

Don’t lose touch with your family during a disaster!

Emergencies can happen at any time. You will want to send and receive information from your family and friends.

“What if something happens and I’m not with my family?” “How will I know they are safe?” “How can I let them know I’m OK?”

Financial First Aid Kit

We've all heard about the importance of putting together a family emergency and first aid kit to help us get through an emergency.  But have you ever thought of your financial first aid kit ?  People at all income levels have experienced the challenges of rebuilding their lives after a disaster or other emergency.

FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Administration) offers several tips and guides to help you prepare financially and reduce the impact disasters can leave you with you.

Homer Police Welcome Two New Officers

Last night Chief Robl introduced the two newest Police Department members to the City Council during a swearing in ceremony.  We are very happy to have Tyler Jeffres and Kellen Stock and their families as part of our team!

Tyler Jeffres comes to us from Greely, CO as a graduate of Fort Lewis College. Tyler has a background in directing youth programs and youth soccer.  Earlier this summer, Tyler completed sixteen weeks of training and is currently in his second phase of field training.
