Background
The City of Homer is revising its zoning code, which is found in Title 21 of the City Code. Zoning code governs how land may be used and helps achieve future land use goals established by the City's Comprehensive Plan. A well-written code provides the Planning Commission and staff with tools to effectively regulate development, protect and enhance the community, and clearly communicate development processes and requirements to applicants, such as residents, builders, developers, and businesses.
To learn more about the zoning revision to date, visit the Homer Title 21 Update website.
The intent of the update is to ensure that the zoning code:
- is easier to read and understand
- streamlines routine development activities
- considers the natural environment, especially natural hazards
- aligns with community priorities outlined in the comprehensive plan
