Building Code Information
City of Homer Building Code Information
State law requires Fire Marshal Certification for ALL commercial structures, and residential buildings with more than 3 units.
The City of Homer does not have an adopted building code, nor do we have a building inspector.
- If you would like to have your home inspected, or energy rated, there are private businesses that offer these services. Click here and scroll to the bottom of the page for some local providers.
- Some bank financing programs require inspections and energy ratings for new construction. Check out the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation website for more information. The benefit of following AHFC guidelines for Energy Efficiency may be reduced interest rates on your mortgage. If the home is new constructed and not inspected as it is built and energy rated, it will never be eligible for some of the AHFC programs. The decision to have inspections and energy efficiency is yours!
Septic systems, and city water and sewer connections
If you are installing a septic system, here is a list of state-certified installers.
If you will be connecting to city water and sewer, Public Works permits and inspects these connections.
