The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requires that State and local governments comply with Title II of the ADA that covers programs, activities, and services of public entities.  To ensure the City of Homer complies with ADA requirements, a Transition Plan was created and adopted that identifies barriers within the City's public facilities and sets out a schedule to take action to address these barriers to improve accessibility to City facilities for all.

This Transition Plan was adopted by Homer City Council April 22, 2019 per Resolution 19-024.  The ADA Advisory Board reviewed the City Facilities Transition Plan and provided updates to the document that was reviewed and adopted by City Council at their regular meeting on October 23, 2023 via Resolution 23-111.

The ADA Advisory Board then forwarded the completed ADA Transition Plan for City Parks, Play Areas and Campgrounds which City Council adopted at the regular meeting on October 23, 2023 via Resolution 23-112.

Currently the ADA Coordinator and ADA Advisory Board are in the process of working on a transition plan for City maintained trails which should be presented for adoption in 2024.

The ADA Advisory Board will review and update these Transition Plans annually or as needed to identify work completed, add barriers that may arise in the future, and identify interim steps as needed when achieving compliance will take longer than a year to accomplish.
