City of Homer Chosen for Two Drinking Water Awards

Bridge Creek Reservoir

The City of Homer received two awards this month from the Alaska Rural Water Association.  The awards, presented at the Association's Annual Training Conference,  recognize systems and operators that have done an outstanding job in the water and wastewater field.

Homer received the Source Water System of the Year award in recognition of the City's proactive efforts to protect our drinking water source (the Bridge Creek Reservoir) from potential contaminants through a protection plan.  The plan maps the watershed, limits land activities and uses within that watershed that have the potential to hurt water quality, and encourages the City to purchase land within the watershed to further protect the City's water source.

The second award, Wastewater Operator of the Year, was presented to Todd Cook, Homer's Water and Sewer Superintendent.  Todd has worked with the City's water system since 2000, has attained the highest level of training available for the job, and, just last year accepted Homer's award for Best Tasting Water in Alaska on behalf of the City.  Todd also credits Homer's deep shaft treatment facility as well as the professional expertise of the operators and technicians who also work at the Water Treatment Plant.
