Become A Volunteer Firefighter! Training Class Begins in January

The Homer Volunteer Fire Department is offering a Firefighter Training course January 14th through March 30th, 2019.   

Volunteer firefighting is one of the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have!  If you like a challenge, are over the age of 18 (or will be by the end of the year), and are physically up to the task, becoming a volunteer Firefighter I is for you.  Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes -- you just have to be willing to put forth the effort.

Don't Forget! Daylight-saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 11th, which is a good cue to switch out smoke detector and carbon monoxide batteries.

Child Car Seat & Booster Seat Checkup Event

73% of car seats nationwide are not used or installed correctly.  Keep your child safe on every ride by making sure your car seat or booster seat is installed and used properly.  

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be on hand Wednesday, September 20th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Homer Fire Department to help you make sure your child is riding safely.  Learn how to install your car seat for free. Technicians will teach you so that you can always be sure your car seat is used correctly. 

Elaine Retires After 30+ Years of HVFD Service to the Homer Community

Next time you stop in the Fire Department to borrow a chimney brush, report a suspicious smoke plume or get your child safety seat checked – a familiar, ever cheerful face will be missing.  After over thirty years with the Homer Volunteer Fire Department, Elaine Grabowski is retiring May 1st.

Invitation to Bid for A New Ambulance - Bid Results Pending Review of Proposals will be available after March 14, 2016

Sealed bids for the manufacture of a new ambulance will be received at the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall, City of Homer, 491 East Pioneer Avenue, Homer, Alaska, until 2:00 p.m. Friday,  February 26, 2016, at which time they will be publicly opened and read. The time of receipt will be determined by the City Clerk’s time stamp.  Bids received after the time fixed for the receipt of the bids shall not be considered.
