Aug 20th Brown Bag with a HERC Task Force Member

Join HERC Task Force Member Michael Haines at the library for a conversation on the HERC.  This brown bag event is from 12 noon to 1 pm on Monday, August 20th at the Homer Public Library.

This is the third of three scheduled HERC discussions at the library.

HERC 1 Historical Information

Originally built in 1956 as the Homer High School, the HERC (Homer Education and Recreation Complex) is a two-story structure consisting of three distinct spaces (a lower level gymnasium wing, an upper level classroom wing, and a center two-story space that connects the two wings). It is located west of Pioneer Avenue on Woodside Avenue and the Sterling Highway. The property encompasses 4.3 acres, and includes an additional older two story former school building, which is currently used by the Public Works Department.

Homer Comprehensive Plan 2018 Update Open House

Join Planning Department Staff for an open house at City Hall on March 1, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.  This informal gathering will provide the opportunity to discuss the plan update, ask questions and leave comments.

2018 Comprehensive Plan

The 2018 Comprehensive Plan together with the City of Homer’s Master Roads and Streets Plan (1986), Non-Motorized Transportation and Trail Plan (2004), Area Transportation Plan (2005), Town Center Development Plan (2006), and Spit Plan (2010) comprise the Homer Comprehensive Plan. The 2018 Comprehensive Plan was adopted in November 2018.

Commercial Cannabis

The City Council adopted Ordinance 16-04(A-2)(S-3) on March 14, 2016, amending the Homer City Code to identify the Zoning Districts Permitting Marijuana Facilities and adopting Homer City Code Chapter 21.62 Marijuana Facilities, regarding general land use requirements for marijuana cultivation, manufacturing, testing, and retail facilities. 

Development Activity Plan

The goal of the Development Activity Plan (DAP) is to ensure that construction activity is proactive in minimizing the effects of erosion, sediment transport, water runoff and pollutants.
