Sustainability and Climate Change in Homer

Environmental sustainability and climate change have been concerns in Homer for at least two decades and continue to be important issues of increasing priority.  The City of Homer and its' different departments continue to plan for and act on  sustainability issues that include stormwater management and green infrastructure, non-motorized transportation, and climate action. Below you can find more information on the city's efforts, as well as ways to get involved in local sustainability efforts.

Adult City League Basketball 2022-2023

Congrats to Team South Peninsula Hospital for winning the 2022-2023 Adult Basketball League championship. While there was only four teams this year there were lots of great games and good competition.  Thanks to all of the team sponsors: AK PT & Wellness, Bay Welding, South Peninsula Hospital and Alaska Bible Institute.

Tai Chi and Qigong- Spring 2026

Tai Chi (Taiji) & Qigong  These related health and longevity arts originated in China and are excellent for mind and body health. They are effective for managing stress, enhancing resilience, improving balance, musculoskeletal strength, heart health and mental focus. Classes are open to both beginning students and those with experience. These movement classes are done standing and stepping and designed to build skills through repetition.

Buti Yoga Winter 2023

Buti yoga is a mix of traditional yoga and tribal dance created by trainer Bizzie Gold. This workout is based on the traditions of African, Native American and Middle Eastern dance, combining them to create a cardio-dance yoga workout.

Partner Acro Fall 2022

Partner Acro

Join Stephanie Cortes and Brittany Briley for Acro! A fun hour and a half of Partner Acro and focused flexibility. This class is geared towards adults, but you are welcome to bring older kids as long as you keep them with you and they are interested in participating.
