Emergencies can happen at any time. You will want to send and receive information from your family and friends.  

“What if something happens and I’m not with my family?” “How will I know they are safe?” “How can I let them know I’m OK?”  

What To Do During An Earthquake

• If you are indoors, drop, cover, and hold on. Take cover under a desk or table and hold onto it until the shaking stops. Avoid glass that might shatter and heavy objects that might fall on you. If you can’t get under a table or desk, crouch against a sturdy wall in a place where nothing heavy is above you and no windows are nearby.
   
• If you are in a crowded area, stay calm and take cover where you are. Encourage others to do the same.
   

Be Prepared to "Grab & Go" During an Evacuation

In the event of an earthquake, tsunami or fire, you may have to quickly evacuate your home or workplace with little or no warning.  Make a "Grab & Go Bag" of essentials to grab on your way out.  A "Grab & Go Bag" is a packed case that will help keep you safe and comfortable in the coming hours and days.

The City of Homer maintains a number of emergency plans to ensure that the City is ready to respond to a variety of threats and hazards.

However, it is not enough that our City has a plan. We as individuals must also prepare ourselves, our homes, our workplaces and our neighborhoods.

Imagine that you have no electricity, no gas, no water, and no telephone service. Imagine that all of the streets and shops are closed and you are without any kind of help or emergency services. What will you do until help arrives?
