Homer Spit Parking Updates 2024

Harbor Arial Parking Map 2024

Safety improvements, a new parking lot, and more new bus parking/loading zones are on the way!

2024 Parking Updates for the Lots between Ramps 3 to 5

To enhance safety and efficiency, vehicles exceeding 20 feet in length are now prohibited in this area.  A new parking lot behind Bob’s Trophy Charters is dedicated to oversized vehicles, with safer exits onto the less trafficked Outer Dock Rd.

Parking delineation will be installed separating parked vehicles from the main Homer Spit Road and creating designated entrances and exits, marked by black parking pylons. This delineation enhances visibility and safety until September for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers wanting to enter the roadway.

2024 Parking Updates for Lot West “the Whale Lot”, (behind Bob’s Trophy Charters)

A new parking lot has been created.

  • The parking lot will be dedicated to Oversized Vehicle Parking Only, 21’ Minimum Limit
  • Free 7-day Short-term parking
  • Long-term parking by permit only
  • No Camping
  • The area in the red will be dedicated to passenger bus loading zones

2024 Parking Updates Ramp 2 Restrooms and New Bus Loading/Parking zones

The Bus Loading Zone near Ramp 2 has been replaced with 8 new free short-term, 1-hour, parking spaces in the heaviest summer congestion area on the Spit.

This area was too congested and frequently blocked making it hard for large buses to use.  Three new spacious zones, conveniently near walking trails and shops, now serve as bus parking and loading/unloading areas. Locations include the corner lot at Homer Spit Rd/Fish Dock Rd, in front of the Chamber of Commerce booth near Ramp 4, and at the newly created Lot West parking area.

2024 Parking Updates Steel Grid Parking Lot

  • Memorial Day – Labor Day:
    • $10 Calendar Day Fee Parking
    • No Long-term Parking
    • Vehicles 20’ & Under
  • Labor Day – Memorial Day:

    • Long-term parking by permit only

The paved area next to the steel grid will be managed and charged for as the other improved paved areas at the tops of each ramp are for consistency.
