Do I need a Sign Permit?

Yes, a permit is required for signs in city limits. In some areas, such as residential zone districts, sign permits are not required, though compliance with the standards is still required. For more information on where a sign permit is required, refer to Sign Code Section 21.60.060. City Planning staff are available assist in the permitting process.

Are there prohibited sign types?

Yes, signs that are easily deformed by the wind such as strung banners, feather banners, pennants, and balloons are all prohibited. You can, however, turn a banner into a legal sign by affixing it to a rigid frame and obtaining a sign permit.
